One Community Health (OCH) is proud to announce the debut of its new Express Clinic. Located in The Dalles, Oregon, right across from One Community Health the Express Clinic is designed to provide high-quality and affordable walk-in health care to patients in the Columbia River Gorge.

Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) is making significant progress on $1.6 million in grant and weatherization funded renovations to The Oregon Motor Motel thanks to the hard work of staff, volunteers, and local contractors. All of whom are rallied around completing the renovation of the 54-room motel which is expected to provide at least 50 transitional housing and shelter units with coordinated supportive services integrated on site in collaboration with community partners.

How do you stop a fire? Don’t have it in the first place. Wasco and Hood River county fire districts along with the Oregon Department of Forestry have banned burning on June 11 in hopes that people turn to chipping or composting rather than matches to deal with outdoor debris.

Retired lawyers and volunteers have joined forces with Portland Community College C.L.E.A.R. Clinic to assist individuals in the Gorge seeking expungement.

Dufur School welcomed the incoming class of Freshman on Wednesday, June 1, and also recognized seniors with Scholarship Awards of $135,000. Superintendent, Jack Henderson, asked the seniors if they realized how special these circumstances were at Dufur School, and all of the graduates nodded enthusiastically.

Here Come the Riverhawks - TDHS Softball team drills as usual on Thursdays as coaches work to keep this tight-knit team loose and ready to play in what looks to be a great championship game against Henly on Saturday, June 3 in Eugene. The Team is equally good on the field as they are at knocking home runs at a record pace.

Opening on Thursday, June 8th, 2023 the Small Works Exhibit at The Dalles Art Center is a window into the talent of local and regional artists. Twenty-nine pieces of art were selected from a list of over sixty submissions.

The Put the Scenic Back in Sorosis fundraiser aims to raise $347,000 in funds for phase two of the park rehabilitation project which will involve tree plantings, landscaping, the construction of an ADA accessible gazebo/pavilion, and improved walking trails.

Van Tilburg has been the Health Officer for Hood River County Health Department for five years. “I love the challenge, the enthusiasm and the impact of public health,” he said. He now serves as health officer for both NCPHD and Hood River County.

More than a hundred anti-hunger advocates and community leaders gathered at the Port of The Dalles May 20th, 2023 to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Columbia Gorge Food Bank warehouse and community food center. Located at 3525 Crates Way in The Dalles, the new, permanent home increases Columbia Gorge Food Bank’s food distribution capacity by over five times its previous facilities, opening a new chapter for communities facing hunger throughout Hood River, Sherman and Wasco counties.

College board members, following recommendations of a 13-member search committee, last week announced the selection of potential successors to Dr. Marta Yera Cronin, who will be leaving the college effective June 30 to assume a community college presidency in Pennsylvania.

“Award Winning Artist Trent Beaver is known as one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier singer-songwriters and he is playing the Bargeway Pub in TD tonight, May 12 starting at 7:00 p.m. It’s just one of many jams to happen this weekend as temps tip into the 90s calling for cutoffs, tanktops and margaritas. The 1st annual round dance in honor of missing and murdered indigenous people will be held on Friday May 5th, 2023 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Wahtonka Community School, in The Dalles, OR. The family friendly event is free to attend. All gorge community members, allies, and native people, are invited to gather, dance, raise community awareness, and promote healing together.
