Local Robotics Student Achieves Dream, Secures Acceptance into West Point Military Academy
It wasn’t easy. It took Chase Sam two cycles of applications, several years of effort, and multiple interviews with state senators and congressmen, but he has now realized his long-cherished dream. Chase said his experience with the Wasco County 4-H & TDMS underwater robotics (ROV) program and high school football helped prepare him for the Academy.

$1.6 million in Renovations to MCCAC Navigation Center Annex Near Completion
Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) is making significant progress on $1.6 million in grant and weatherization funded renovations to The Oregon Motor Motel thanks to the hard work of staff, volunteers, and local contractors. All of whom are rallied around completing the renovation of the 54-room motel which is expected to provide at least 50 transitional housing and shelter units with coordinated supportive services integrated on site in collaboration with community partners.
Banning the Burn: ODF pulls plug on fires in HR, Wasco counties on June 11
How do you stop a fire? Don’t have it in the first place. Wasco and Hood River county fire districts along with the Oregon Department of Forestry have banned burning on June 11 in hopes that people turn to chipping or composting rather than matches to deal with outdoor debris.

Dufur School welcomed the incoming class of Freshman on Wednesday, June 1, and also recognized seniors with Scholarship Awards of $135,000.
