This past weekend May 29-31 the 14U Sluggers baseball team had their final tournament in Hillsboro. They captured first place once again in the Northwest Nations Memorial Day Challenge.

On May 22nd and May 23rd the 12U Sluggers baseball team competed in a tournament at Jaquith Park in Newberg. They captured 2nd place in the tournament.

City of The Dalles Public Works crews worked through the night to repair a water line near the intersection of 14th and Quinton Streets, which has officials recommending they turn off the mains to their houses.

Police blocked access to Interstate 84 and Highway 30 West of The Dalles on Wednesday afternoon when a grass fire started blowing large plumes of smoke over the highway. Multiple firefighters and an air attack were brought in to douse the flames. The fire was burning as of the posting of this story at 2:55 p.m.

Sculpture, plantings and vibrant colors have transformed Kelly Avenue this week as multiple projects, both public and private, have coalesced to give the thoroughfare an inviting and clean look. Check it out.

This past weekend, May 29-30th, the Cherry City Crush softball team took first in their tournament with some tight games and a 10-run blowout. Go Crush!

TD Public Library Opens Back Up

Brett Nikolay at Hatt’s 76 Fuel Stop downtown The Dalles has it figured out. Nothing like a little mist to keep things cooled down. It’s a hot one, no doubt, as temperatures are expected to hit 100 degrees Fahrenheit today, June 1.

The Dalles Kiwanis have a loaded schedule for its weekly programs this June. Lisa Commander, education director at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, and Andrea Klaas, executive director of Port of The Dalles, will be speaking in their areas of expertise. And then finish it off with a cool one with Steve Light from Freebridge Brewing. Check out the schedule here.

The Dalles Beautification Committee gave Lynn and Marlene Long the May/June Beautification Award. Lynn and Marlene Long pictured here with Mayor Mays on the right put a lot of thought into making their garden a seasonal delight. You must see it in person, 2401 Mt. Hood Street.

In a push to grow local news coverage and provide a public space where ideas can be shared to better lift standards for all in The Dalles and the Gorge, CCCNews and Immense Imagery are moving to the former Tenneson Engineering building, 409 Lincoln Street.

Over 200 local businesses took advantage of the free supplies.

Five local residents are challenging the city of Hood River’s new “Middle Housing” zoning change, citing inadequate public notice. 800-square-foot cottages “may be used as vacation rentals--or sold to people who want a second home here. This is market-rate housing, it will not be the affordable housing Hood River needs.”

Museum operators and floozies are back in business. The Queen of the West docked this morning at 10 a.m. and some 78 passengers disembarked for a tour of our little corner of the world. They had money to spend.

Dufur High School 2021 Scholarship Recipients

Clang… Clang… Clang… Clang… Clang… Clang… That noise emanating from downtown The Dalles is the sound of progress as the City of The Dalles is replacing about 1,000 feet of sewer line just west of Union Street and Hattenhauer Distributors.

Taylor Morehouse topped 14 feet in the pole vault to take state gold at the 5A state track meet this past Friday and Saturday, May 21st-May 22nd. He was among 3 athletes that took top 3 in their events. Overall, The Dalles High School had 11 students make it to state. They represented The Dalles really well and most PR’d. Morehouse’s phenomenal vault has led him to be the first state champion at TDHS since 2010.
