Scholarships will benefit four students enrolled in the college’s Early Childhood Education program this fall, said Wendy Patton, executive director of Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation. The awards will help students complete the program and enter the workforce.
I have watched darn near every Marvel movie that has come out in the last 11 years, and I have to be honest, I’m quite sick of them. However, I’m happy to report that Doctor Strangle and the Multiverse of Madness was (mostly) a happy departure from the norms of the Marvel Comic Universe and that I genuinely enjoyed watching it.
Taylor Morehouse ended his senior season literally on top, with a fifteen-foot and state championship-winning jump in the pole vault, a half-foot ahead of Silverton’s Joel Rush. With the entire stadium clapping, he barely missed his attempts at 15’9”, which would’ve broken The Dalles’ record. Still, he was pleased with his season- with an improvement of over a foot over the past few weeks.

Zora Richardson and Alex Rector, two senior vocalists from The Dalles High School will be giving a recital Sunday, May 22 at 3:00 pm at the First Christian Church, The Dalles. Both students have been under the instruction of private voice instructor Shawn Lutz/Lutz Music Studio for the past three years. They will be presenting from Classical to Musical Theater.

There’s no harm in pursuing these things because you never know what’s going to click and really resonate with you. Whether it’s a male-dominated field or not, I feel like that’s been my mantra about a lot of things; you might absolutely hate something, but you might just really love it.”
New Urban Renewal grants intend to kickstart the economy, redevelop buildings and add jobs to the central business core in The Dalles. Grants range from $10,000 to $700,000 depending on the project. Property owners are required to match from 30 to 50 percent. “There some real energy coming to downtown and it’s really exciting,” said Renewal Chair Darcy Long.

The scenery was so important to the drafters of the Act, that the external boundaries of the National Scenic Area were created with consideration of the landscapes that could be seen from Key Viewing Areas (KVAs) like Crown Point, Cape Horn, and roads such as I-84 in Oregon and SR-14 in Washington.

The stabilization work has been ongoing since 2015 in an effort to prevent the embankment to the north of Scenic Drive road from falling. Stabilization Improvements to an approximate 1/4 mile segment of between Jefferson Street/Terrace Drive and Esther Way are mostly complete. Project Engineer Mike Bosse said the latest phase will be completed by the end of October in four areas in the ¼ mile stretch with four different sections measuring, 110, 45, 40, and 70 feet.
