The Dalles Wasco County Library has a schedule packed with fun seasonal activities this October, including a Samhain lore from Master Storyteller William Hornyak, a humans vs zombies nerf war for ages 13-18, virtual author talks, a drawing workshop with renowned cartoonist Rick Stromoski, a tattoo inking tutorial from local award winning tattoo artist Jacob Hanks, sugar skull take and make kits for Day of the Dead, pizza and legos night and much much more!

Vaccine Clinic Boosts Sense of Community in an Isolating Time

The free Covid-19 vaccine clinic in front of La Michoacana in The Dalles on Kelly Avenue was hopping with happy patients seeking the new Omicron inclusive booster today, Sept. 30. The vibe at the clinic was very fun and upbeat compared to a typical hospital setting. “That was the most fun shot I’ve had in a while,” said Phil Brady, Wasco County Commissioner who got boosted at the clinic this afternoon.

City Lifts 'no contact' warning on Mill Creek after discovery of sewage spill on Sept. 23

The City of The Dalles has removed the ‘no water contact’ signs along Mill Creek and the Columbia River on Thursday, Sept. 29. after water tests showed the water had returned to normal conditions. Vandals blocked a sewerage pipe and it was discovered on Friday, Sept. 23. Human waste, urine and feces had been spilling into the creek.

$85k in Google funds used to better train locals for manufacturing

CGCC expands job training at Skills Center with the addition of CNC milling equipment through a grant funded by Google. “This equipment is part of the future of automated manufacturing -- everything from farm equipment to furniture to airplanes,” said the college’s president, Dr. Marta Cronin. “Our students can now master this technology before they enter the workforce, launching them into family-wage jobs.”
