A 58-year-old woman recently died after spilling out of a raft in the Upper White Salmon River. She was pinned under water for several minutes before a guide located her on Saturday, July 15. She died despite efforts to revive her and additional care at a nearby hospital.

Lyle, WA July 17, 2023– A Burlington Northern Santa Fe Train (BNSF) train experienced a fire in the generator compartment at the Lyle Cherry Orchard trailhead near Lyle, WA at around 6:40 p.m. on July 17.
A wildfire, known as the Bear Creek Fire (PCC-167), broke out on the afternoon of July 16th, 2023, in Skamania County, Washington, North of Carson. The fire started at approximately 3:33 p.m. and quickly spread in the heavily forested area near Wind River Highway and Bear Creek Road. Officials estimate the fire's size to be around 5 acres, as reported by Air Attack.
The Dalles City Police Chief Tom Worthy, presented Officer Karrie Call with the department’s Life Saving Award at The Dalles City Council meeting on July 14th. The honor was bestowed upon Call for her swift and life saving actions following a vicious dog attack in April.
