Today the Community Backpack Program had their first day of operation at their new location at Columbia Gorge Food Bank located at 3525 Crates Way, in The Dalles. Volunteers packed 195 bags with take-home weekend meal supplies for food insecure students in the area.
An accident occurred on September, 13th, at approximately 10:47 p.m. on I-84 in The Dalles, OR, near Coastal Farm and Ranch. Police reports indicated that a car crashed into a tree, leaving two individuals injured, prompting a response from emergency services, including Life Flight.

The store which won last year’s Best New Business of the Year Award, will have its final farewell celebration on September 23rd. Oregon’s unemployment rate stayed at 3.4% in August, the same as July. This tied Oregon’s record low of 3.4%, which also was reached in November and December 2019. Since May, Oregon’s unemployment rate has been below 4%. The U.S. unemployment rate rose from 3.5% in July to 3.8% in August.
The Gorge Technology Alliance (GTA) and the Columbia Gorge STEM Hub share the mission of ensuring equitable access to quality STEM experiences for all students. Western Pacific Timber (WPT) has immediately closed off lands to the public. This closure will affect hunters during the 2023 and future seasons. According to the company’s website, Western Pacific has some 59,000 acres of holdings in Klickitat County.
