Oregon's Future Is Worth Fighting For; Elect Christine Drazan
Protecting our environment, supporting education, and providing essential services are important responsibilities of government. So is creating an economy where people can work, invest, raise families, and prosper.
Personal Endorsement of Mike Urness for Wasco County Commissioner
During the devastating 2018 Substation Fire, Mike and his family suffered significant losses. That kind of experience brings a personal understanding of the consequences of wildfire and the importance of protecting our rural communities.
Elect Scott Hege: Being a State Rep. Is Not an Entry-Level Job
Scott isn’t asking for a job he hasn’t prepared for. He’s an engineer. He ran the Port of The Dalles, where projects either get built on time and on budget or they don’t. He has served on the Wasco County Commission, where you can’t hide behind a press release when the road isn’t fixed or the budget doesn’t balance.
Vote Josiah Dean for Oregon House Dist. 57
Rep. Greg Smith has held this seat for decades. This summer he agreed to pay a $12,000 fine to the Oregon Government Ethics Commission and was removed as co-chair of a Ways and Means budget subcommittee. His integrity is questionable. District 57 deserves a representative whose standing in Salem is not in question.
Vote Dan Gunkel for Klickitat PUD
In my opinion, which in this case is an informed one, Dan’s experience and leadership is critical to the utilities ability to address the many challenges and also opportunities that the board will be faced with in the future, whether it be data centers, energy supply and cost, or the many other challenging issues that come before the board.
Record Turnout in Oregon Primary not enough; Twice that needed for Nov. 3
Record Turnout in Oregon Primary not enough; Twice that needed for Nov. 3
Vote Hege for District 52
I encourage Hank Sanders to get involved in the community, build his knowledge base, gain experience, and keep pursuing public service.
For District 52, with over 30 years of qualified experience, Scott Hege will have my vote as a proven leader. Oregon does not need to take chances right now.
Endorsing Josiah Dean for House 57
Dean is committed to listening and advocating for the needs of his future constituents, both rural and the small town residents.
Hege for Oregon House District 52
We are farmers and have seen first hand how excessive regulation and misguided policies hurt our natural resource community. Scott’s experience as a business owner and his 16 years as a Wasco County Commissioner make him the clear choice for Oregon House District 52.
Wasco County is People - Not a Hedge Fund
Spending money on Wasco County today helps our towns, neighborhoods, & farms thrive now & in the future. We are finally getting the millions we loaned (via tax breaks) Google (a $4 trillion corp.) only to see it be funneled into a bank’s investment portfolio for another 15 years? What are we even doing here, folks?
Letter of Support for Nick Poublon
Nick has grit. He will stand up for what he believes is right even when it costs him in the form of campaign contributions or endorsements. He did this with his stance on data centers. He has maintained his position on health care, education, and equality. He is not a Johnny come lately jumping into a race simply because it seems winnable in this election cycle.
Vote for Hank Sanders for State Representative
He grew up in rural Oregon and cares deeply about our farm and forest lands that are what really make Oregon, Oregon. Whether I am meeting with him in Salem in his role as a legislative staffer or talking to him on my farm, I know that I am working with a person of integrity who is working tirelessly to protect and improve Oregon.
Hank Sanders for HD52
Hank is our best choice for State Representative, he’s identified the threat to our healthcare posed by federally-mandated Medicaid changes coming in 2027, and he’s the only candidate promoting a plan to respond.
Endorsement of Phil Brady for County Commissioner
Families are struggling to find homes they can afford, and workers can't stay in a community where there's nowhere to live. Phil understands this — not just as a policy matter, but as a human one. As Chairman of the Columbia Gorge Housing Authority, he has helped move forward 130 units of affordable housing in Hood River and another 76 units coming to The Dalles.
TDAC potential losses ‘suck’
They need our support as much as we do theirs. Art is good for our mental health. So is a festival but we shouldn’t have to pick between them?
A Reality Check for Washington State
We have seen the highest tax increase in history. With most of the state being rural, which means a lot of people have 10 to 50 miles, or even farther in some cases, to get to their job. The recent tax increase amounts to over 59 cents for a gallon of gas.
False premise in column about Google and school funding
For the supposed school cuts, to say we are missing out on $2,764 in per student funding is a false premise. Your readers deserve a more accurate understanding of school funding.
