Fair weather and good conversation greet big crowd at Kiwanis Steak Feed
By Tom Peterson
The Dalles Kiwanis pulled off another great steak feed on Thursday, Sept. 9 with fair weather and some tender steaks. And don’t forget that coleslaw. Kiwanis Volunteer Candy Armstrong said ticket sales were strong in the final analysis, making it possible to sell most of the 700 steaks that were pre-ordered. Tickets went for $20.
I met my scalper, Kiwanian Dennis Morgan, in the parking lot. He set me up with two delightful tickets for my wife Peggy and myself with seating, well, anywhere we wanted.
It appeared the crowd was prepared for the event, many bringing their own steak knives. Many opted for Orange Soda and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert.
Oh wait, that was me.
We also had a good chance to talk with Wasco County Sheriff Lane Magill, who noted Wasco County had borders with seven other counties and boundaries that ran from Clarno to the east and Clear Lake to the west - that’s a lot of miles to cover for one agency. He also said he would not miss the Fourth of July. Hmmm…
Scott Baker with Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation was also on hand, pointing out the upgrades to Sorosis Park that are coming soon. Irrigation is already being installed, and a basketball court with views of the dam will also be in place soon.
I told him it will be awesome to see the dam when I go up for a reverse dunk three feet above the rim.
He looked at me standing 5’ 4” and 182 pounds and likely estimated a vertical leap of two inches. He said it would never happen!
Good times.
