The Dalles City Council will vote Monday, June 2, on whether to authorize a $465,000 tourism promotion contract with The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce, following the submission of five bids for the job.

Brewster Whitmire was just a year out of The Dalles High School in 2009 when a little project hit his radar. The avid skateboarder found out there was a push to create a skate park at Howe Park near The Dalles Middle School. But, it turned out, neighbors were less than enthused.

Jesus Sosa, 56, and Saul Guzman, 45, both of The Dalles were all smiles this morning as Sosa loaded his trowel with the wet concrete and threw it at this block wall on Kelly Avenue like he was skipping rocks at the beach. The pair were met with great weather for their work and it looks to continue all week.
