Seven TDHS Students Selected for 4A All-State Softball
The Dalles High School Athletics shared that seven students have been selected for the 2023 4A All-State Softball Championship 1st and 2nd teams. All-state teams are put together based on nominations from coaches.

In case you missed it: In this report about ADA accessibility in The Dalles High School, CCCNews followed 16-year-old Larkin Hampton as they attempted to access the entire school. Hampton is not disabled, but rather had a temporary ankle injury; however, Larkin’s temporary condition made it possible for CCCNews to get a clearer understanding of the challenges a person with disabilities might encounter while attempting to attend TDHS.

The Dalles Library Hosts Spooky Community Read for Halloween
The Dalles Wasco County Library will host a month’s worth of events centered around Neil Gaiman’s Newbery award winning The Graveyard Book, tale about a boy who is raised by ghosts. Library card holders can stop in, grab a free copy of the book or graphic novel and register to participate in a group discussion of the book at the Pioneer Cemetery on Oct. 28.

New PAC Seeks to Replace Wasco County DA Matthew Ellis
A non-partisan political action committee (PAC) concerned with crime called Save Wasco County has formed in The Dalles, OR. Two people, including the Mayor of The Dalles, said the PAC was to fund a campaign to bring a challenger against District Attorney Matthew Ellis in next year’s May primary election.
Wasco County Debris Burn Ban Being Lifted
With the recent and forecasted cool wet weather, local Fire Districts, Wasco County, and the Oregon Department of Forestry have agreed to lift the seasonal burn ban on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 12:01 a.m. This will allow for burning in barrels and small debris piles. Larger slash pile burning is not included in this lifting of the ban.

Wonderworks Children's Museum has announced that they are facing a temporary closure due to financial hardship. The closure is scheduled to begin on October 1st. Wonderworks needs to raise $40,000 in general donations and $2,500 in re-occurring monthly donations to reopen.
