A break-in was reported at 10:32 a.m. on Thursday morning after it was discovered, according to the Wasco County Sheriff’s log.

Some of the Dalles' most exciting innovators met this week to collaborate and share ideas about starting and doing business in Wasco County. It was hosted by MCEDD at Wines on 2nd Street. A crowd of about 20 business owners huddled around a stage to listen to panelists talk about their successes and struggles in starting businesses here in The Dalles.

George and Terri Robertson are making a good impression. The couple from Portland is well into a restoration of the Wilkinson House at 207 Fourth Street in The Dalles.

Google's first data center in The Dalles went online in 2007 and had been exempt from property taxes in Wasco County for the past 15 years. With the expiration of the enterprise zone abatement, this property is fully taxable and now on the tax roll this year.

Angela and Brian Hanson have poured their heart and souls into Empower Yoga in downtown The Dalles with the idea that the new business can bring strength to the community through wellness and movement.

Arturo Dominguez's grit and determination have led him to restart his jewelry business at 409 Lincoln St., The Dalles. He said it was especially uplifting to receive so much help from the local community so that he could make it happen after a fire destroyed his shop in May.

Several local businesses in the Columbia River Gorge got a special delivery on October 5th, 2022. Travel Oregon, and local tourism leadership hand delivered bags of cookies with thank you notes attached to tourism oriented businesses across the region. Their visit highlighted both the successes and struggles of the Mt. Hood and Columbia River Gorge’s tourism industry.

Jarabe, which translates to “concoction,” highlights the eclectic mix of genres Jarebe Mexicano perform ranging from Mexican Folk, Rock & Roll, and Norteño/Tex-Mex to Latin Rock, Trío Romántico, and popular Cumbia. They hit the stage on Thursday, Oct. 6 at The Dalles Civic. They’re not just musicians but educators and ambassadors of culture and a ton of fun.

“We need more weekend closures to complete this project, and they will resume on Thursday, September 29,” said ODOT Spokesperson Kacey Davey. Closures will begin on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. and end Monday mornings at 6 a.m., and the four-day closures could last into February of 2023.

CGCC expands job training at Skills Center with the addition of CNC milling equipment through a grant funded by Google. “This equipment is part of the future of automated manufacturing -- everything from farm equipment to furniture to airplanes,” said the college’s president, Dr. Marta Cronin. “Our students can now master this technology before they enter the workforce, launching them into family-wage jobs.”

A new grant program for reutilizing older buildings in The Dalles downtown has property owners making upgrades as Urban Renewal looks to breath new life into the commercial district. Also updates on the Recreation Building, Blue Building, Tony’s Town & Country and First Street upgrades.

The Lund Report, a nonprofit, non-partisan news site, recently published a well-detailed report on the finances of both Mid-Columbia Medical Center and its possible future partner Adventist Health as the two could possibly have agreements in place to join forces by the end of 2022.

The City of The Dalles has received a request to approve the construction of a single 290,000-square-foot data center on Google-owned property in the Port of The Dalles. “We’re happy to see them progress,” said The Dalles Mayor Rich Mays. “I am happy this is happening so quickly.”

“Helping people accomplish their goals and follow their dreams is what we love most,” Weed said. “We have helped to support people open their own businesses, working in the jobs of their dreams and travel to see the world both locally and as far away as New York City.”
