The Yakima-based developer intends to build 60 apartments, 18 townhouses and has already broken ground on the construction of a Starbucks near McDonald’s and The Dalles Bridge. The construction could address the dearth of housing in The Dalles, which has seen housing stocks at historic lows in the last several years.

"There will be a planned power outage that will affect some members in the Odell and Pine Grove areas beginning around 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 19. Some members will have brief interruptions at the beginning and the end of the work, and some will be off for up to 4 hours.

Michael Wannick submitted the application for the single-story bank with a drive-through and parking at 1014 W. Sixth Street, across the street from the Barbecue Restaurant earlier this month. The application is pending for comment and final decision.

A second round of contract losses forces Klickitat County into budget crunch as dollars from Landfill dwindle. When asked about the reasons for the contract losses, Steve Gilmore, media representative for Republic Landfill Services, attributed the losses to a competitive market. “It's going to get exceedingly more difficult to pass a budget in the coming years,” Commissioner Jake Anderson said. ”The landfill has been our savior and saving grace for the last 30 years…

I ordered my mocha and meal at 11 a.m. and was told it would likely take 30 minutes to receive my food. I happily settled in for the wait. My mocha arrived in under five minutes and my food arrived 15 minutes later. The turnaround felt very reasonable given how many patrons were waiting for their food and coffee orders.

Wild Brew cafe, located at 418 E Second St in The Dalles opened for business yesterday. In fact, the cafe was so full of patrons looking to support the grand opening that the cafe had run out of mozzarella cheese for their pizzas!

GOBHI has made preparations to sell its former property at 401 E. 3rd St. to Wasco County. The downtown 3rd Street building would serve as office space for county staff and existing tenants. TD city residents with service to a 32-gallon trash can will see their rate increase 10 cents to $21.89 per month. This includes the Household Hazardous Waste surcharge of $1.40. The Dalles Disposal offers free service to seniors 85 years and older. It also supports multiple community cleanups at no cost to volunteers or weekend warriors.

Starseed Curiosities and Gifts, in The Dalles will close it’s doors for good next weekend. The store which won last year’s Best New Business of the Year Award, will have its final farewell celebration on September 23rd. The Columbia River Gorge is alive with activity as the fall salmon run (August-November) hits its stride. Today Gilmore Fish Smokehouse had purchased approximately 30,000 lbs of Coho, Sockeye, and Chinook from Native American fishermen.

So how do they get that pear in a bottle at Clear Creek Distillery? Fruit shrinking nano-technology? Some say you can light a match and drop it in the bottle and set the pear on top and the vacuum sucks it in. Hmmm… It’s really a lot tougher than that. These beautiful pears are totally high maintenance.

A few months ago Maren McGeeney, decided to take a leap of faith. After decades working in other people’s restaurants and cafe’s she decided to put her culinary and barista skills to the test by opening The Wagon Social Club in Mosier, OR. This hip food cart shares outdoor patio seating, with Randonée Coffee Co., a local coffee shop owned by Maren’s husband Bryan McGeeney, and sits kitty corner from several other food carts in the area.
