On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Wasco County District Attorney’s Office arraigned Sean Boyd of Canby, Oregon on two charges of first-degree Sex Abuse.

The Columbia River Gorge Quilters’ Guild will be hosting their largest quilt show ever with more than 150 quilts on display. The 16th Annual Gorge Quilt Show opens Friday, October 13th, and continues through Saturday, the 14th at the Hood River County Fairgrounds.

St. Mary’s Academy recently received award notifications of two $150,000 grants through the Oregon Department of Emergency Management (ODM). ODM administers the Non-profit Security Grant Program (NSGP) made available to Oregon non-profits from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These funds are part of a larger, nearly $20 Million, grant awarded throughout the State of Oregon for security and disaster preparedness.

In August of 2022, Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) opened a new shelter in Klickitat County, providing temporary safe housing to those fleeing domestic violence. Managed by the team at Programs for Peaceful Living (PFPL), it was dubbed “Gina’s Place” in honor of State Representative Gina Mosbrucker, who championed the effort to bring Capital Funding to a County that had been without a domestic violence shelter for over two decades.

The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 25, 2023 - Mural artists from three different states converged on The Dalles this morning as they are bringing another lively piece of art into being on a downtown building, adding to the 15 murals that Walldogs painted a year ago in the downtown core.

On Monday, October 2, 2023, the City of The Dalles Public Works will begin full pavement reconstruction following the installation of a sanitary sewer main on Court St. between E. 12th St. and E. 13th St., weather permitting. The purpose of this work is to restore the pavement surface. Construction is expected to occur over four days with expected completion by Thursday, October 5, 2023.

The Vote Yes TDHS team that is supporting the upcoming $140-million school bond to build a new high school in The Dalles has been listening to questions from the public. In response they have put together some fairly specific information about the bond, what it will pay for, including athletic fields, maintenance on the current high school building, and, of course, the cost of the new high school. Functionality and maintenance become greater challenges as years go by, and the life expectancy of this venerable structure turned out to be a mixed blessing.  It’s a lovely, substantial, well-built building, adequate for its time. But times change.

Kiwanis Pocket Park in The Dalles witnessed a spectacular display of superhero spirit today as the "SuperHero Fun Run" took flight. Participants of all ages, decked out in superhero attire, came together for this family-friendly event promoting health and wellness.

The renowned annual football clash for a cause between the fearless Columbia Gorge Law Enforcement and the heroic Columbia Gorge Fire Fighters is set to light up the Wahtonka Football Field in The Dalles tomorrow, Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 starting at 6 p.m.

The Troopers arrived on scene and determined the crash involved at least seventeen separate vehicles. Three of the involved vehicles were completely destroyed by fire; including two Commercial Motor Vehicles and one passenger car.

Edward Hastings, 96, was a sophomore at The Dalles High School when he got the call to be a volunteer firefighter. He slept in the fire hall and jumped from the third story of the US National Bank into a safety net held by other volunteers. He was also one of the first to walk the halls of the current-day TDHS after it opened in 1942.

Wonderworks Children's Museum has announced that they are facing a temporary closure due to financial hardship. The closure is scheduled to begin on October 1st. Wonderworks needs to raise $40,000 in general donations and $2,500 in re-occurring monthly donations to reopen.

The Lyle Community Council heard a proposal from Klickitat County Sheriff Bob Songer and Undersheriff Carmen Knopes about the potential of installing license-plate reading cameras throughout the county at the council’s Sept. 13 meeting. “It’s strictly for crime fighting. It’s not facial recognition or anything like that. They would be installed in high crime rate areas where we have a lot of theft going on,” said Songer.
