Relive the Riotous TD Pineapple War this Saturday, Feb. 12

Rodger Nichols researched the incident that took place in 1949 when longshoremen at west coast ports honored a strike by their counterparts in Hawaii and refused to unload a shipload of pineapples. The union was not represented in The Dalles, so the ship headed up the Columbia and attempted to unload its cargo at the local port. Soon longshoremen descended on the town and a riot ensued.

Police pursue pickup in West TD; spike strips deployed; suspect flees on foot

A Red Ford Pickup was seen by multiple eyewitnesses with The Dalles Police and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office in Pursuit. Even with spiked tires, the suspect led law enforcement officials on a speedy chase through town.

After The Fire: Survivors hold sale as they confront being houseless

Joli Kirk and Kerry Hyde are picking up the pieces after an alleged arson fire destroyed Aubrey Stacy’s antique business and left all three of them houseless. A sale of the salvaged antiques is occurring at the parking lot on Sixth Street in The Dalles through Sunday. David John Daniels, 66, has been indicted on first-degree arson.
