A plane crashed southeast of Columbia Gore Adventist Health, formerly known at Mid-Columbia Medical Center last night.

The City of The Dalles water service line survey has been mailed out to every water customer in the City’s service area. The City of The Dalles has no known lead service lines in our system. However, to comply with the Federal Lead and Copper Rule Revised, the City must record an inventory of all materials in our system from the water main to where the service line connects to your building.

For thirty years Steve Hinatsu- a 1972 Wahtonka High Grad - was a coach, referee, and volunteer in other sports besides football here in The Dalles. He likes the friendliness of The Dalles. And, it is a town that has shown that providing a good school environment helps raise educated, caring, responsible adults.

The Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue team is currently stationed on Third Street near Clock Tower Ales in The Dalles, collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and other important causes. The event, taking place on October 18, is drawing the community's attention and support.

How can we in good conscience stunt the growth of our youth? These are the people who, if nurtured, can do the most to enable our community to flourish. We ask then, who is going to care for our youth if we voters do not?

At the heart of many college dreams and student aspirations at The Dalles High School is a program that is quite literally, changing lives. ASPIRE stands for "Access to Student Assistance Programs in Reach of Everyone," and it embodies the state of Oregon's official mentoring program. Its mission is simple yet profound: to empower students with the knowledge and support they need to navigate the path toward higher education and future success.

The Dalles High School Athletics shared that seven students have been selected for the 2023 4A All-State Softball Championship 1st and 2nd teams. All-state teams are put together based on nominations from coaches.

In case you missed it: In this report about ADA accessibility in The Dalles High School, CCCNews followed 16-year-old Larkin Hampton as they attempted to access the entire school. Hampton is not disabled, but rather had a temporary ankle injury; however, Larkin’s temporary condition made it possible for CCCNews to get a clearer understanding of the challenges a person with disabilities might encounter while attempting to attend TDHS.  

At the heart of it, it is refreshing to see neighbors and friends coming together to make an overall improvement to the community and possibly motivate others who see them to think about what they might do to make The Dalles a better place to live.

The embrace of autumn is upon us, and what better way to savor the season than by joining The Dalles Farmers Market for their highly anticipated "Harvest Festival." On October 14, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., City Park, located at 5th & Union, will be transformed into a vibrant hub of fall festivity and culinary creativity.

Henri Matisse once said, “Creativity Take courage.” Georgia O’Keeffe is quoted as saying, “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” Every artist has a unique perspective and approach to their work that may not be understood solely from looking at or reading about their art.

Per Diem Thrift Shop, now known as Vibe consignment, has rebranded and moved out of the basement of Studio Fit and into their own space at 416 E 2nd St in The Dalles. The store offers hand selected fashions, gifts, and plants from Nicole’s Nursery. 

The Dalles Public Works crews will be cleaning stormwater catch basins throughout the City. The purpose of this work is to protect property and the environment. Cleaning catch basins allows for efficient drainage into the stormwater conveyance system.

Sometimes kids need a helping hand. When Rachel Cole Miller, a local successful restauranteur, was a sophomore at The Dalles High School, she had a baby. Rather than be shunned and kicked out of school, she was able to attend a childcare program provided by the school district. She was able to continue her studies. Without that support, she doesn’t think she would have graduated. She and her husband Jason are now owner-operators of Zim’s.

These are the classes where students get their hands dirty, doing actual jobs that exist outside the classroom and in the real world. Career and Technical Education would be given room to grow in The Dalles if the bond for new high school passes on Nov. 7th. We took a look at nearby Hermiston High School to get a better understanding of the opportunity.

The Dalles High School Graduate Asher Young and a team of nine other individuals including Director Wade Fisher, and Actor Casey Emmerling won Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director at the Portland 2023 48 Hour Film Project. 

Serious Theater in partnership with the Wasco County Cultural Trust Coalition bring art and music together in a special event happening on Sunday, October 22 at 2:00 P.M. The Dalles artist Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield will create a painting on glass while pianist Garry Estep provides accompaniment.
