Columbia Gorge Resolution Center Asks for Signatures to Secure $36.1 million

The Columbia Gorge Resolution Center is asking citizens to sign a letter of support that will be presented during an upcoming legislative short session in which Wasco County and Mid-Columbia Center for Living will request $36.1 million in funding to build a 16-bed secure mental and behavioral health residential treatment facility (SRTF) and stabilization center on 10th and Walnut in The Dalles, OR.

While the possibility of foul play was a significant concern, authorities say they have found no evidence or probable cause to suspect criminal activity linked to Walker's death. "Though foul play cannot be ruled out completely, there is no evidence or probable cause to believe that a crime was committed," Sheriff Songer added, marking an end to the lengthy investigation.

Resident Admits to Setting Fire at Her Own Residence in The Dalles

In the early morning on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2024, local authorities received a call from Amy Cardoza. The 56-year-old reported setting a residence on fire at 109 E. 7th St. with a lighter in the kitchen of a duplex at approximately 3:36 a.m.Cardoza admitted to the 911 dispatcher that she used a lighter to ignite the blaze, according to The Dalles Police log. She also said the house was used as a methamphetamine production site and that is what motivated her to light it up.

Survivor Speaks Out to Raise Awareness of Human Trafficking

The Mid-Columbia Human Trafficking Task Force in partnership with Haven hosted their second annual human trafficking awareness walk event on January 11, 2024. During the event Karen Shultz, Victim Advocate Coordinator for the Wasco County District Attorney’s Office, and trafficking survivor, bravely stepped forward to share her story to help raise awareness of human trafficking in the gorge.
