Houseless Community Member Hospitalized Due to Hypothermia Will Receive Shelter

A community member who is experiencing houselessness has been hospitalized due severe hypothermia from prolonged exposure to the winter weather. City of The Dalles Police, community members, local health services, the Department of Human Services, and Mid-Columbia Community Action Council responded to the incident in a timely manner resulting in the administering of lifesaving care and securing shelter for the individual.

Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) is partnering with Mid Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) and other agencies and nonprofits to provide Emergency Cooling Shelters and relief from unhealthy air quality events for vulnerable populations during this summer’s expected extreme conditions.

Were Cherry Blossoms tough enough to endure this morning's snowstorm?

Tough Enough? Mike Omeg said neither he nor any of his workmates can remember a snow when cherry trees were in blossom in the past 50 years. Local cherry trees hit with snow during the blooming season avoided freezing temperatures. Omeg said that bodes well for this summer’s crop. But it’s a long road to June.

Enrique Reyna, 29, of The Dalles takes a quick corner with a zeor-turn Kubota mower this morning, April 5, as winds and light rain blasted from the west at Thompson Track. Temperatures were in the high 30s and apparently much colder atop the Columbia Hills above Dallesport as you can see they were capped with some white stuff in the last 24 hours.
