The Dalles Kiwanis held a Q&A session with the 7th District Circuit Court Judge Position 4 candidates Incumbent Judge John Wolf and challenger attorney Caleb Berthelsen on May 5th at 12 p.m. Both candidates were given ten minutes to speak followed by a short Q&A session from the audience.

Wasco County Commissioners Update: Kathy Schwartz to serve on City/County Coordinated Homeless Service Advisory Committee
The Wasco County Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting at 9 a.m. on May 4th, 2022. During the meeting Kathy Schwartz responsed to a letter from Mid-Columbia Community Action Council requesting her to join a homeless services advisory board. Also on the agenda was the Google service fee agreement with Wasco County 4-H, requests from Mid-Columbia Center for Living for ongoing support, and a presentation from Mid-Columbia Economic Development on their 2022-2023 goals,.
Annual Plant Sale May 7th to benefit Master Gardeners and youth in NORCOR custody
Wasco County Master Gardeners will host their annual Plant Sale on May 7th, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Dalles City Park. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Master Gardners and NORCOR’s greenhouse program from incarcerated youth.
Jerseys to Rwanda: TDHS Girls Soccer impacts Local and Global Communities
TDHS Girls Soccer kicking some philanthropy into gear. Recent goals include donation of jerseys to Rwanda children and preparing for a free soccer camp in The Dalles for this summer. North Wasco County School District 21 seeks bond measure planning committee members
North Wasco County School District is seeking interested individuals to sit on a Community Bond Planning Committee. As a community-driven process, we are seeking interested parents from each of the district schools, students, and community and business partners to join school and district staff on this committee. Applications are due May 17th.

Six months & 2,650 miles on foot; TD grad tackles Pacific Crest Trail
TDHS grad Emily Peterson, Class of 2017, is off and hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail. The 23-year-old went alone but has already fallen in with a fast group of friends and encountered trail angels with spaghetti and Gatorade at the end of a hot 10-mile day that turned her water the temperature of hot tea.

On April 28, 2022, Judge John Wolf and attorney Caleb Berthelsen spoke before the Hood River Rotary Club at a forum moderated by Senior Judge Paul Crowley. Both are candidates for judicial position 4 in Oregon’s Seventh Judicial District, a position held by Wolf since 2011.

Dunn crushes TDHS record in Triple Jump; Track team kicking at end of season
Last week, however, at The Dalles’ final home meet and at the Dean Nice invitational in Gresham on April 29 - all eyes were on Zoe Dunn’s outstanding triple jump, which smashed her personal record by nearly three feet and obliterated the school record set by Sharon Engle in 1998.

Stevenson Picnic Pavilion ignites after fire reportedly escaped fireplace
First arriving units reported smoke coming from the structure and encountered a group of local musicians removing their equipment from the pavilion. Firefighters used forcible entry tools to gain access to the interior of the building where they found fire in the wall

The main ballot mailing went to US Postal Service today, Wednesday, April 27 for distribution. Voters should expect their ballot to arrive in 2-7 days depending on where they live. If you have not seen a ballot after 7 days and are expecting to receive one, please call the Wasco County Clerk's Office at 541-506-2530.
