St. Vincent de Paul Society’s downtown location is undergoing a beautification process. Volunteer painters Lance Pardee and Galen Ballinger have painted the once gray building a sky colored blue and brightened up the entrance with a mural of a friendly and welcoming sun.
Leaving the Hook in Hood River, guests will launch on the Columbia River, paddling and exploring the landscape with guides from Hood River SUP and Kayak. Guides and educators will lead discussions on local birds and the cultural and ecological history of the area throughout the excursion. HAVEN from Domestic and Sexual Violence, in The Dalles released an official statement today about the secret indictment of former HAVEN Executive Director, Tara Koch. Koch was arrested Thursday, July 7th, 2022 in Washington County on 26 counts including theft, identity theft and forgery. HAVEN alleges that Koch stole more than $96,200* from HAVEN. Koch will be tried in Wasco County on all 26 charges.

State policymakers agreed to fund $2.1 million in drug treatment and behavioral health resources in Wasco County, according to an Oregon Health Authority news release issued today. The policy and money allocations were born out of voter-approved Measure 110, which to date, has allocated approximately $134 million and includes Access to Care (ATC) grant funding.

The Mid-Columbia Senior Center is looking for medical equipment donations for its Medical Loan Closet. We are desperately in need of shower chairs, wheelchairs, and 4-wheel walkers (the ones with a seat and brakes). The program is run on donations and props those up who have health and mobility problems. Use the items for a month or a year, whatever is needed. And donate your medical equipment back when it is no longer useful to you.
On February 9, 2022, Dakota Glenn and another person violently confronted a victim at gunpoint in The Dalles. They ransacked his home, stealing some of the few possessions he had. They took him from his home by threatening him with a gun and forced the victim to accompany them across town.

Hundreds gathered for The Dalles Fourth of July parade today at 10 a.m. with a host of events to follow. The celebration will culminate with the fireworks display launched from the center of the Columbia River between the Union Street boat dock and The Dalles Dam tonight at 10 p.m.
