In August of 2022, Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) opened a new shelter in Klickitat County, providing temporary safe housing to those fleeing domestic violence. On Monday, October 2, 2023, the City of The Dalles Public Works will begin full pavement reconstruction following the installation of a sanitary sewer main on Court St. between E. 12th St. and E. 13th St., weather permitting. The purpose of this work is to restore the pavement surface. Construction is expected to occur over four days with expected completion by Thursday, October 5, 2023.

The renowned annual football clash for a cause between the fearless Columbia Gorge Law Enforcement and the heroic Columbia Gorge Fire Fighters is set to light up the Wahtonka Football Field in The Dalles tomorrow, Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 starting at 6 p.m.
The Troopers arrived on scene and determined the crash involved at least seventeen separate vehicles. Three of the involved vehicles were completely destroyed by fire; including two Commercial Motor Vehicles and one passenger car.
Edward Hastings, 96, was a sophomore at The Dalles High School when he got the call to be a volunteer firefighter. He slept in the fire hall and jumped from the third story of the US National Bank into a safety net held by other volunteers. He was also one of the first to walk the halls of the current-day TDHS after it opened in 1942.
