The Sherman County 4-H Day Camp held June 12 and June 13 at Camp Morrow lakeside facility in Wamic resulted in many happy campers! Thirty campers, nine teen counselors, and eleven adult staff and instructors gave the youth an active, educational, and fun outdoor experience outdoors on Pine Hollow Reservoir.
OSU Sherman County Extension is offering free classes to youth and adults to learn skills in food preservation in September and October. The first class was held Saturday, September 9 at the pavilion in Grass Valley during the farmers market.
A wide variety of scientific concepts were explored including force, motion, gravity, momentum, inertia, and more. A total of 44 individuals participated in the camps, with a total attendance of 136.

The Sherman County Sheriff’s Office posted photos of the TA Express truck stop on fire in Biggs Junction around 6:30 a.m. this morning, March 7. The post asks drivers and onlookers to avoid the area so that firefighters and emergency responders can do their jobs safely.

Leads on the possible identification of this individual were received by the Sheriff’s Office in the following days and weeks; numerous reporting parties indicated they believed the remains to be that of David West, Jr., a man who had disappeared from Sherman County trying to cross the John Day River during a large flooding event in 1964.
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown announced this morning that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is authorized for children ages 5-11. Vaccine appointments are available at local doctor’s offices and several local pharmacies in The Dalles. Sherman County residents can also sign up for the vaccines at the clinic in Moro.
