Starseed Curiosities and Gifts to Close its Doors Sept 23rd
Starseed Curiosities and Gifts, in The Dalles will close it’s doors for good next weekend. The store which won last year’s Best New Business of the Year Award, will have its final farewell celebration on September 23rd. As a thank you to the community, everything in store will be 40% off from now until the final ceremonial closing of the doors. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Columbia River Gorge is alive with activity as the fall salmon run (August-November) hits its stride. Today Gilmore Fish Smokehouse had purchased approximately 30,000 lbs of Coho, Sockeye, and Chinook from Native American fishermen.

So how do they get that pear in a bottle at Clear Creek Distillery? Fruit shrinking nano-technology? Some say you can light a match and drop it in the bottle and set the pear on top and the vacuum sucks it in. Hmmm… It’s really a lot tougher than that. These beautiful pears are totally high maintenance.

The Wagon Social Club Opens in Mosier
A few months ago Maren McGeeney, decided to take a leap of faith. After decades working in other people’s restaurants and cafe’s she decided to put her culinary and barista skills to the test by opening The Wagon Social Club in Mosier, OR. This hip food cart shares outdoor patio seating, with Randonée Coffee Co., a local coffee shop owned by Maren’s husband Bryan McGeeney, and sits kitty corner from several other food carts in the area.

For whom the Bridge Tolls: Officials seek comment on Toll increases for HR Bridge
In a push to secure federal loans to construct a new Hood River Bridge, toll increases are currently being considered and the public is being asked to take a survey to consider two different menus of increases. Cost per auto and pickup would see an increase from $2 to $3 or $3.50 cash and from $1 to $1.75 or $2 on the BreezeBy system, depending on which toll option is used.
