Board chooses Bernal for D21 Superintendent
The North Wasco County School District Board unanimously agreed to begin contract negotiations with Dr. Carolyn Bernal of Oxnard, Calif., to become the District 21 permanent superintendent to start on July 1, 2021. “I am thrilled we found someone with her qualifications and experience,” said Board Member Rebecca Thistlethwaite.

The North Wasco County School Board delayed making a decision on hiring a permanent superintendent for the district tonight, Friday, Jan. 22.
TD School Foundation looking to diversify its volunteer group
To better educate and serve students, The North Wasco Education Foundation is looking to increase its numbers through the recruitment of a more diverse group of volunteers. Hispanics, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and other groups, as well as families whose resources are challenged, should have a seat at the table.

D21 Superintendent Search - Meet The Candidates
North Wasco County School District 21 has narrowed its search for a permanent superintendent to just three candidates. And one of them is expected to be hired on Friday, Jan. 22. CCCNews went head to head with each candidate for 30 minutes asking five questions about the future of TD schools. The district is set to hold a public forum with the candidates on Friday, Jan. 15 via a live broadcast on its Facebook page.

Keeping Stride
Annabelle Lavier of The Dalles made her mile walk at Thompson Track this morning, Monday, Jan. 11. The 73-year-old has been coming to the track and field for decades. She remembers taking her son, Jack, at 6 months old and her daughter, Kris, when she was three years old to play at the field. They are now in their 40s.

Governor calls for reopening local schools 'safely' by Feb. 15
Gov. Kate Brown said the long term benefits of heading off emerging mental health and academic crisis for students far outweighs the short-term risk of reopening schools. She asked that more schools be on track to safely reopen by Feb. 15. District 21 Interim Superintendent Theresa Peters said that will give the district time to absorb new guidance due from the state by Jan. 19. The district will also gather input from parents and staff.

TD student goes statewide with filming skills
The Dalles’ own Riley Elliott has gained a statewide stage this holiday season. The Middle School student used her iPod and the help of little sister Rozlyn to create a public service announcement on how to stay safe during the holidfays that is now being used on NBC Sports Northwest.
TD football's "Zuck" anchored Chicago Bear line in two NFL championships
Our Recent story about the 1947 championship run by The Dalles High school has prompted another, perhaps, fascinating detail. The Dalles produced an NFL guard who has been named in the top 100 to ever play for the Chicago Bears. Richardson appointed to D21 School Board
North Wasco County School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Judy Richardson to serve in the role of School Board Member for the Zone 7 position. Dr. Richardson was appointed by the NWC Board of Directors on November 19th, 2020 in a unanimous affirmative vote.
