Fire in West TD, destroys front half of home; triggers quick response from police & firefighters
Local TD resident is able to escape blaze of her own home, but much of it was destroyed after the fire broke out shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 21.
Newman arraigned in suicide case; Judge sets bail at $1,000
During the arraignment, additional details about Newman’s relationship with Cagle were revealed so that Wasco County Circuit Court Judge John Olson could decide on a bail amount to ensure that Newman would return to court and not flee from prosecution. Wasco County District Attorney Matthew Ellis told the judge that Newman and Cagle met at Route 30 earlier this year and he provided her dinner, clothes, shopping and financial assistance.

Local Man indicted on Manslaughter in death near TD High School in March
Washington family seeks justice after finding strange circumstances surrounding the death of 29-year-old Alex Cagle who was found in a U-Haul rental pickup next to a combustion trash pump in a church parking lot in The Dalles on March 27. 60-year-old Joseph Carl Newman of The Dalles is now facing a second-degree manslaughter charge in connection with the death.

Hood River County 2023 Special District Election Results Update
As of May 17th, at 10:45 a.m. Hood River County Special District Election has seen an overall voter turn out of 35.84%. Current results show that over 74% of voters voted yes on the Hood River County School District Levy Renewal. Meanwhile some contested races are still too close to call.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office and Hood River City Police responded to a drowning at the Hood River Marina on Friday, May 12th, 2023. The remains of a Hood River man were recovered from the Marina the following day.
Troopers bust up street racers at Rowena Loops May 13; one wreck, crowd of 150 gather
When officers arrived, Troopers estimated that a crowd of more than 100 were gathered in the Rowena Crest Parking lot as 50 sports cars and their drivers were “racing and burning out their tires on US 30 and in the parking lot.”
