The embrace of autumn is upon us, and what better way to savor the season than by joining The Dalles Farmers Market for their highly anticipated "Harvest Festival." On October 14, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., City Park, located at 5th & Union, will be transformed into a vibrant hub of fall festivity and culinary creativity.

Per Diem Thrift Shop, now known as Vibe consignment, has rebranded and moved out of the basement of Studio Fit and into their own space at 416 E 2nd St in The Dalles. The store offers hand selected fashions, gifts, and plants from Nicole’s Nursery.
The Dalles Public Works crews will be cleaning stormwater catch basins throughout the City. The purpose of this work is to protect property and the environment. Cleaning catch basins allows for efficient drainage into the stormwater conveyance system.
Commissioners also heard from Washington State Parks Commissioner Holly Williams, who said she met recently with Gorge Commission Executive Director Krystyna Wolniakowski about adding electric vehicle charging stations to parks in the gorge and made a startling discovery: "They are not expressly permitted in the 2020 Gorge Plan," she said.
Mt. Hood National Forest fire personnel plan to begin burning piles of slash this fall season. If weather and moisture levels remain favorable, pile-burning operations could begin as early as October 16 and continue through the next several weeks as conditions allow.

Bargeway Pub In Td welcomes Little Music City’s Al Hare tonight, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. Hare is kicking it off this week as ghostly entertainment is coming out of the walls. Sometimes kids need a helping hand. When Rachel Cole Miller, a local successful restauranteur, was a sophomore at The Dalles High School, she had a baby. Rather than be shunned and kicked out of school, she was able to attend a childcare program provided by the school district. She was able to continue her studies. Without that support, she doesn’t think she would have graduated. She and her husband Jason are now owner-operators of Zim’s.
Skamania and Klickitat County seniors can apply to receive assistance to pay their energy bills through local events held in an ongoing partnership with Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP), local PUDs, and the Skamania and Klickitat County Senior Services.

Career and Technical Education would be given room to grow in The Dalles if the bond for new high school passes on Nov. 7th. Darian Ritchie was working the gravel for a new pump track this morning near The Dalles Aquatic Center on West Second Street as the rain was just starting to fall. Ritchie is with Velo Solutions which has the contract to build the track. They intend to be finished by November.
Our annual Haunted House morphs a bit every year. Being able to separate the downstairs scary stuff and have the upstairs available as options for light and cute fun is one recent addition. Upstairs the WS Mason Lodge will be stationed amongst decorations, and somewhat depends upon who wants to participate in this on Halloween.
The Dalles High School Graduate Asher Young and a team of nine other individuals including Director Wade Fisher, and Actor Casey Emmerling won Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director at the Portland 2023 48 Hour Film Project.
Serious Theater in partnership with the Wasco County Cultural Trust Coalition bring art and music together in a special event happening on Sunday, October 22 at 2:00 P.M. The Dalles artist Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield will create a painting on glass while pianist Garry Estep provides accompaniment.

Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) is pleased to announce the grand opening of The Annex Transitional Housing and Shelter, formerly the Oregon Motor Motel. The formal grand opening event will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 12th at 200 West 2nd St. in The Dalles, in the Annex’s west parking lot.
“We have a duty to protect the citizens and visitors of Klickitat County; therefore, using advanced technology such as the Flock Cameras will assist deputies in our mission to protect our residents and visitors to Klickitat County,” Undersheriff Carmen Knopes said. Not all see it that way. “These systems are ripe for abuse and a great tool for authoritarians,” one citizen commented.
The Dalles Wasco County Library will host a month’s worth of events centered around Neil Gaiman’s Newbery award winning The Graveyard Book, tale about a boy who is raised by ghosts. Library card holders can stop in, grab a free copy of the book or graphic novel and register to participate in a group discussion of the book at the Pioneer Cemetery on Oct. 28.
The Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting CGCC student scholarships as they pursue career, education, and lifelong learning goals. The Foundation is thrilled to share the success of its 23rd Annual Founders Cup Golf Tournament, held September 9, 2023, at the Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River, Oregon.
