On September 7th, 2024 an Officer with HRPD stopped a vehicle for exceeding the posted speed limit. During the contact, the officer who has received specialized training in the arena of controlled substance impairment, observed several signs of impairment exhibited by the driver.

Cantwell led a high-speed chase after fleeing detention during a traffic stop near Shaniko in 2021. After one of Cantwell’s tires blew out, Sergeant Matt Tuia pulled his patrol vehicle in behind Cantwell’s vehicle along the highway. Cantwell got out of his vehicle and fired multiple rounds at Tuia, striking the driver’s side of the windshield and the hood of Sergeant Tuia’s vehicle. One of the rounds barely missed striking Tuia’s left side.
Smoke has increased from the Williams Mine Fire near Trout Lake, Wash. as low humidity and high temps have spurred fire in unspent fuels within the blaze. A heat advisory for the area continues through Saturday, Sept. 7 until 9 p.m.
Policy aligns with research suggesting that limited cell phone use can improve students’ academic performance, mental health, and overall behavior. Students caught using their phones during the school day will have them confiscated and phones will be returned to a parent or guardian. Fire managers flew over the fire and observed minor fire growth in the east fork of Herman Creek yesterday. Excess hose was pulled from Tomlike Mountain and the northeast side of the fire. Crews repaired hand line and a temporary helicopter landing spot.
