The Dalles Wasco County Library will celebrate Harry Potter’s Birtthday today from 3-6 p.m. and Harry Potter Trivia from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

On Monday, United Way of the Columbia Gorge presented $104,000 to 27 non-profit organizations which do life changing work in the Columbia Gorge Community and to award the Outstanding Volunteer of Year awards.

The Milepost 87 Fire Fundraiser, will occur on July 29th, to raise money for the victims of the Milepost 87 fire that struck in June. Fudraising events will include live music, a rafflle, a Bollywood Block Party, a cornhole tournament and more!

Mid Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) held a Contractor and Volunteer appreciation lunch at The Annex in The Dalles today, to thank all the folks, including 21 local contractors that have done work on The Annex over the last six months. 

Starting Monday, August 7th, 2023 at 9 a.m. the Hood River Armory and Gorge Roller Derby will welcome kids aged 9 to 17 to build confidence, teamwork, have fun skating, and learn the basics of roller skating, and roller derby!

Hood River Aero declared flour bomber Liam Schofield and his pilot Jason Wells as the winners of their Flour Bombing at 4S2 competition on July 14th.

Friends Zeke and Ronnie of Hood River were working their usual corner today, July 18, at 12th Street and Montello Avenue as temps climbed into the high 80s. The kids were running a brisk business, relying on the stop sign to halt cars so they could ask passengers if they might indulge in one of their Solo cups of lemon bliss for a buck.

Washington Gorge Action Programs is supplying cooling kits this summer to help people in need combat extremely hot weather. The cooling kits are replacing the emergency cooling shelter, which went unused in 2022.

Several families lost their homes in Milepost 86 fire on June 14th, 2023. But while some families GoFundMe’s quickly met their goal, others have been lagging behind. Fortunately, community organizers are working hard to ensure that they don’t get left behind.

Reaching rural communities to support families who fight food insecurity has become a mission for Anna Henschel. This big-city Chicago resident came to Klickitat County in 2022 and has taken to rural life like a fish takes to water. 

Columbia Gorge Pride Alliance (CGPA) hosted their 2nd annual pride parade and resource fair in The Dalles on June 25th. Over 150 people marched in the parade and about 300 people visited the resource fair at Lewis and Clark Festival Park throughout the day. 

Just fishing around - these pelicans had a great morning below the Lone Pine Subdivision below The Dalles Dam on Sunday morning, June 25. The birds appear to be doing quite well below the dam feeding on the Columbia’s bounty.

The camp focus was “Not all classrooms have four walls”, and campers had outdoor education on delved into some interesting topics. They learned about bees and pollinators, Leave No Trace when in the outdoors, stream health, hiking to look at flora/fauna/insects, and archery. And, of course, there was singing and games and field activities. And don’t forget the Goldendale Pool.
