Navigating public transit in the Columbia River Gorge can be daunting for many, but Sara Crook, a dedicated ‘Travel Trainer’ with the Mid-Columbia Economic Development District (MCEDD) and Columbia Area Transit, is on a mission to change that, one rider at a time.

Zoologist, animal behaviorist, and wildlife educator Karl Anderson, also known as the "Bird Man," captivated a room full of children at The Dalles Wasco County Library with his collection of exotic birds.

As temperatures soared to a scorching 113 degrees, making it one of the hottest days of the year, residents flocked to the splash pit at Aquatics - Northern Wasco County Parks & Recreation to cool off.

His Patriotic Jeep had judges seeing red, white and win! 

Free cooling kits are available at all WAGAP offices in Stevenson, Bingen, and Goldendale. They are also available at Second Hand Rose WAGAP’s community thrift store in Bingen.

On July 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., they will exhibit their work at Yvonne’s Art Studio, 3735 Klindt Drive in The Dalles.  They will be working on location and invite others to join them in creating in their media of choice.

The Dalles-Wasco County Library has collected 478 cranes from the community as part of their 1,000 cranes project. The project was a cultural appreciation event for Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month.

In a continued effort to restore Sorosis Park’s Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District (NWPRD) in collaboration with Alpenglow has planted 25 new trees at Sorosis Park.

The Dalles Wasco County Library hosted The Dalles very own Victor Johnson on June 21, at 12 p.m. as the third performer in their Lunchtime Concerts on the Deck series.

Terry was larger than life and will be deeply missed by many. He was a people person who found fun and friends wherever he went. Although he is no longer here his kindness and gift of connecting with people will be remembered with a smile.

On June 18, the Wasco County Public Library kicked off its Summer Reading Program. The program aims to promote literacy and encourage kids to keep reading throughout the summer break.

Over 250 people attended Black in the Gorge’s (BIG) 2nd annual Juneteenth celebration at Jackson Park in Hood River on Sunday, June 16. The event featured food, fun, and performances from Boka Marimba Band, dance lessons from African Dance Instructor Ebenezer “Ne” Amartey, the Gorge Freedom Choir, and a DJ.

The Next Door Inc. (TNDI) recently marked a significant milestone with the first two student graduations of 2024 at its alternative high schools, Klahre House and Kelly Avenue School. These schools serve as beacons of hope for at-risk and disenfranchised youth who have struggled within the traditional public education system.

Eric Kallio, performed a live outdoor concert at The Dalles Wasco County Library today June, 14 as a part of the library’s "Lunchtime Concerts on the Deck" series featuring different musicians every Friday in June from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Concert goers enjoyed Kallio’s original folk music and tacos from Tacos Tumbras on the deck.

For the fourth year in a row, the North Wasco County Education Foundation solicited nominations for their Golden Apple Awards. These awards recognize excellent teachers and other staff in the North Wasco County School District. The program was created to incentivize excellence and honor outstanding staff.

From the Columbia River to the shores of Mexico, three-time Stand Up Paddleboard World Champion Fiona Wylde has navigated waters around the globe. Now she’s making a splash in her hometown of Hood River with Wylde Wind & Water, a non-profit which aims to create equitable access to water sports through water safety education, youth water sports programs, free community programs for all ages and much more!

The Dalles Kiwanis Club congratulates our graduating High School Key Club members and thanks them and their advisors for their contribution to the community through service projects this year. Under the supervision of their advisors, Kayla Magill and Christina Burk, each of the following members earned a Key Club Graduation Medallion in special recognition of their hard work.
