Managers of Worldwide Structures Property Company told The Dalles City Counselors on Monday that they want to locate an affordable housing manufacturing plant in The Port because of its close proximity to Native American Tribes in the Pacific Northwest. Counselors approved their bid for a five-year property tax abatement in The Port of The Dalles.

The Dalles City Police received several calls concerning a door-to-door salesman for Dish Satellite television services on Monday.

The Port of The Dalles Board of Commissioners approved an extended enterprise zone for Worldwide Structures Property Company LLC at its Wednesday, July 22, meeting. The tax abatement, already approved by Wasco County, must also be adopted by The Dalles City Council. It is slated to review the agreement on Monday, July 27.

Columbia Cinema of The Dalles will not be able to open this August as owner David Humphrey had hoped for last week. The National Association of Theatre Owners have started a Save Your Cinema campaign at: saveyourcinema.com It urges people to petition congress to help theatres until they can resume normal operations.

The recent issue of the P.E.O. Record features a nice piece of history where local Chapter Q contributed to the health of our community back in 1919 during the Spanish Influenza epidemic. International Chapter President Brenda Atchison used the history to point out the “bonds of sisterhood” that has endured to our current time of struggle.

The Dalles Artist Chris Pothier moves his hand along the Decision at The Dalles Mural on Federal Street, pointing out damage and topcoat flaking. The Dalles Mural Society has hired Pothier to repair the mural starting in September.

Worldwide Structures Property Company LLC is requesting a tax abatement in an extended enterprise zone to be considered by The Port of The Dalles Commissioners on July 22. The company is proposing to build a 35,000 square-foot-facility at 3855 River Road. The manufacturing building will be used to modify building materials, assemble all components of a completed home and some commercial structures, and ship the building to site.

Good days bring 20 to 30 fish. His best is 48 so far this season. Past years brought double that in a day’s plunking. At $5 to $8 a fish, it’s still worthwhile.

Orchardists have several weeks left of harvesting as picking has moved to higher elevations such as 8-Mile Road and Dufur as they pluck away at the some 10,000 acres of cherries planted in Wasco County. “It’s been about an average harvest across the board.”
