Mel Mendez, 63, and owner of Gameopoly on Second Street The Dalles was after it early this morning, Monday, Feb. 22. Mendez said he picked up this display cabinet while attending a flea market in Portland during the weekend. He said business has been slow, and the flea market was similar. “People are still not spending money,” he said. “It will turn around. You got to be hopeful.”
Restauranter stoked for reopening
Ken Catlin of Beachwood Eatery can bring the wings. The long-time resident of The Dalles said he and his wife, Nancy, were ecstatic to hear that restaurants will be able to open to 25 percent of dine-in capacity next week.

Man Who Stabbed Roommate Multiple Times is Sentenced for Assault in the 2nd Degree
Today, Wasco County District Attorney Matthew Ellis announced that 67-year-old Clay Parsons received a 66-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to assault in the second degree.
It's no secret; Masons do good work in our community
I found a lot more about Phil Pinto this week. He is the current The Dalles Masonic Lodge Master, and the organization just earned the 2020 Outstanding Philanthropic Group by Mid-Columbia Health Foundation. The Masons provide an immense amount of support to local students and teachers and the community at large.

Getting Personal with The Diaries of George Vause - Regional History Forum
It was over 100 years ago at the old St. Paul’s Chapel on Union Street that George Vause began a lifetime career as a church organist. As a perceptive and sometimes opinionated young boy, Vause began keeping a journal. The earliest three volumes paint an intimate picture of life in The Dalles in the early 1900s.

TD City, County to take Testimony on Google Investment
Public comment is set to open for Google’s latest tax reduction at a joint meeting between The Dalles City Council and Wasco County Commissioners on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. The 20-year deal would require Google to pay 50 percent and 60 percent of assessed property taxes on two new data centers respectively. The deal is potentially worth $90 million to start.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Harlee Kubitscheck wasn’t quite sure how to take the 23-degree temperatures and fresh pow downhill. But she ended her sled ride with a smile for her dad, Jacob, and sister, Lolani, 10. The family was gathered with about 30 other people at the Dry Hollow Elementary hill this afternoon, Friday, Feb. 12.
