The Dalles Downtown Tree Project Update

The City of The Dalles is pleased to provide an update on the downtown tree project, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the beauty and environmental health of our downtown area. Under a contract agreement with The Davey Tree Expert Company (Davey), the City has been diligently monitoring and supporting the newly planted trees to ensure their successful establishment and growth.

The Heights Streetscape Plan: Public Hearing to Consider Transportation System Plan Amendments

The City of Hood River Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on July 1, 2024, to consider amendments to the City’s Transportation System Plan (TSP). The hearing will focus on transportation improvements recommended in The Heights Streetscape Plan, a transportation refinement plan that reflects three years of community input and public meetings.   

Affordable Housing at 780 Rand Road Receives Final Pieces of Funding

The affordable housing development at 780 Rand Road has secured the final pieces of funding needed to move forward. Community Development Partners (CDP) and Columbia Cascade Housing Corporation (CCHC), the City of Hood River’s chosen developers for the project, have been awarded $36.4 million in private activity bonds and a 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credit allocation of $3.2 million by Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS).

The two-story home flanked by gorgeous birch trees sports some of the largest Rhododendrons in The Dalles. Hydrangea and roses and astute detail to ground cover make this home a shaded cool oasis, especially during warm summer days when you can often find Bev and Al on the front porch talking with friends and neighbors.

Shooting Investigation: Boom Truck rams gate at Crestline before man fatally wounded

At 10:30 a.m. this morning, Wasco County District Attorney Matthew Ellis was at the site of the shooting in front of the Astro gas station, 2914 W. Sixth Street. A stolen 10-ton boom truck rammed through the gate at the Crestline Construction yard in the Port of The Dalles. The boom truck struck a police vehicle before the driver was mortally wounded in gunfire, according to police.

The Next Door Inc. Celebrates Student Success at Alternative High Schools

The Next Door Inc. (TNDI) recently marked a significant milestone with the first two student graduations of 2024 at its alternative high schools, Klahre House and Kelly Avenue School. These schools serve as beacons of hope for at-risk and disenfranchised youth who have struggled within the traditional public education system.

The Dalles Library Concert Series Features Folk Artist from Government Camp, OR

Eric Kallio, performed a live outdoor concert at The Dalles Wasco County Library today June, 14 as a part of the library’s "Lunchtime Concerts on the Deck" series featuring different musicians every Friday in June from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Concert goers enjoyed Kallio’s original folk music and tacos from Tacos Tumbras on the deck.
