The City of The Dalles is showcasing The Walldogs teaser mural, which is currently being crafted on 103 E. 3rd St. It’s on the wall facing the parking lot and City Hall. The mural is intended to get the community members excited for what's to come in September 2021. The city is encouraging onlookers to gather, wearing their masks, watch, and interact with the artists as they work.

Mike Gorton with The Dalles Disposal started his day at 5:45 a.m. this morning, Friday, Oct. 2. The 28-year-old said he was off his regular route in South Wasco County, where he services, Dufur, Maupin, Tygh Valley and Wamic. He said he even had a “frenemy in Friend.” Gorton is eyeing a ‘59 Ford Edsel Ranger Sedan there, and, well, the current owner is not quite ready to sell.

Bill Marick of The Dalles hooks onto his 1962 Willy’s outside of Adam’s Auto, this morning, Oct. 1. Marick, who has owned the vehicle for decades, was excited to be taking the it home where he plans to finish work to the motor. He said the vehicle was great when his three sons were learning to drive. it was impossible to kill in low range as they were learning to drive clutch. And it was also a dead give away when they were out and about driving. They couldn’t get away with much.

Father Son Duo setting a strong foundation

Norman Pratt, 74, at right, and son Nathan, 45, work on preparing forms for the foundation of a single-family house at 2118 E. 12th St. this morning, Tuesday, Sept. 29. The duo intended to get an inspection done today and hopefully concrete trucks will arrive on Wednesday. However, there was that little detail of rebar. They were hoping to complete the installation of the steel reinforcement for the concrete today as well. The pair have great weather to work in as temps look to be in the low 80s all week with nary a cloud in sight.

Recycling has always had its struggles, and China’s “National Sword” policy, enacted in January of 2018, has continued to place more limitations on local recycling facilities. The Dalles Disposal Service Center receives between 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of recyclables a day, so where does it all go? Jim Winterbottom is the district manager of Waste Connections.
