Bargeway Pub In Td welcomes Little Music City’s Al Hare tonight, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. Hare is kicking it off this week as ghostly entertainment is coming out of the walls. Trout Lake Hall is also hosting Dusty Trails - a two-day music fest featuring Americana. Check out all the mid-Columbia entertainment here.
Autumn has made it to the gorge and with the crisp fresh air, a record-breaking fall run of chinook salmon has made its presence known. Fishermen and women from the area have descended on the Columbia River for their chance at catching a “king”. It is a sight to be seen, our picturesque backyard filled with fishing boats.
Sometimes kids need a helping hand. When Rachel Cole Miller, a local successful restauranteur, was a sophomore at The Dalles High School, she had a baby. Rather than be shunned and kicked out of school, she was able to attend a childcare program provided by the school district. She was able to continue her studies. Without that support, she doesn’t think she would have graduated. She and her husband Jason are now owner-operators of Zim’s.
As a way to promote healthy living and possibly reduce mental health challenges like stress and depression, the Sherman County Prevention Coordinator, OSU Sherman County Extension, and Greater Oregon Behavioral Health Inc (GOBHI) recently offered a free class at the Sherman County Senior Center.
Skamania and Klickitat County seniors can apply to receive assistance to pay their energy bills through local events held in an ongoing partnership with Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP), local PUDs, and the Skamania and Klickitat County Senior Services.
These are the classes where students get their hands dirty, doing actual jobs that exist outside the classroom and in the real world. Career and Technical Education would be given room to grow in The Dalles if the bond for new high school passes on Nov. 7th. We took a look at nearby Hermiston High School to get a better understanding of the opportunity.
Darian Ritchie was working the gravel for a new pump track this morning near The Dalles Aquatic Center on West Second Street as the rain was just starting to fall. Ritchie is with Velo Solutions which has the contract to build the track. They intend to be finished by November.
Our annual Haunted House morphs a bit every year. Being able to separate the downstairs scary stuff and have the upstairs available as options for light and cute fun is one recent addition. Upstairs the WS Mason Lodge will be stationed amongst decorations, and somewhat depends upon who wants to participate in this on Halloween.

Serious Theater in partnership with the Wasco County Cultural Trust Coalition bring art and music together in a special event happening on Sunday, October 22 at 2:00 P.M. The Dalles artist Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield will create a painting on glass while pianist Garry Estep provides accompaniment.

Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) is pleased to announce the grand opening of The Annex Transitional Housing and Shelter, formerly the Oregon Motor Motel. The formal grand opening event will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 12th at 200 West 2nd St. in The Dalles, in the Annex’s west parking lot.

The Dalles Wasco County Library will host a month’s worth of events centered around Neil Gaiman’s Newbery award winning The Graveyard Book, tale about a boy who is raised by ghosts. Library card holders can stop in, grab a free copy of the book or graphic novel and register to participate in a group discussion of the book at the Pioneer Cemetery on Oct. 28.

The Dalles Area Chamber, in collaboration with Google, is excited to present a FREE training session for Nonprofit Board and Leadership on October 19, 2023, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. This engaging training will take place at CGCC/Theatre Room located at 400 E Scenic Drive, The Dalles. This opportunity was made possible by a Google Community Grant.
