A 20-year-old Goldendale man was flown by LifeFlight to OHSU on Aug. 26 after a serious crash on Interstate 84 near The Dalles that blocked the highway for about 2½ hours.

A third alleged wrong-way driver has been reported on Interstate 84 in the Columbia Gorge in recent months after Oregon State Police stopped a 33-year-old Pasco man with a 0.22% BAC near The Dalles.

A 22-year-old The Dalles man accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 84 while nearly twice the legal alcohol limit has been indicted by a Wasco County grand jury after a head-on crash that seriously injured three people. He was released from jail on Tuesday.

A brush fire that closed Interstate 84 east of Biggs Junction on Saturday also contributed to a rear-end crash that left three people hospitalized after smoke sharply reduced visibility on the freeway.

A Washington motorcyclist died Tuesday after crashing into a stationary ODOT safety vehicle on Interstate 84 near The Dalles, according to Oregon State Police.

Oregon State Police responded to multiple crashes during Christmas week, including several DUII arrests and rollover wrecks on I-84 and U.S. 197 that damaged barriers and disrupted traffic.

A routine drive turned dangerous on Nov. 7 when a sudden tire blowout ignited a fast-moving vehicle fire on I-84, engulfing a pickup shortly after 1 p.m. east of Rufus, according to Oregon State Police.

Oregon State Police and Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue have responded to a brush fire along Interstate 84 just west of The Dalles this morning, May 29.

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 3:45 a.m., Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 84, near milepost 148, in Gilliam County.

A Hood River man who was a passenger in an eastbound vehicle near Mosier on Interstate 84  was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly assaulting a woman  and grabbing the steering wheel which caused the car to crash, according to Oregon State Police.

“The driver and the passenger were in a verbal dispute when the passenger grabbed the steering wheel and cranked it to the right,” the report states. “The passenger denied it and claimed the driver was traveling 95MPH and attempted to get her phone, and it caused the crash.

The driver then denied being in possession of a firearm. However, his passenger divulged a 45 caliber Glock 21 that was in a bag behind the driver’s seat, the report states.

Driver flees from arrest after warrants discovered. Chase at speeds up to 110 mph ensued before spike strips were used to flatten tires of suspect vehicle.

Police received the call of the driving altercation at around 4 p.m. on Monday, March 25, and Oregon State Police and a Sherman County Deputy both responded to the call of a man in a Red Nissan Rogue pointing a gun at a vehicle with three juveniles and two adults.

An investigation revealed that the driver of the Nissan struck a red F-150 pickup and struck the guardrail before coming to a stop.  The man was arrested on multiple counts including driving under the influence and reckless driving.

“He refused a follow directions and resisted arrest,” the Trooper reported in the log. “He later refused a breath test and a warrant was obtained. The driver then provided a breath sample per the warrant with a result of 0.15 blood-alcohol content.”

Pitts was seen earlier in the week at the laundry at Cascade Square. He said he was going to see his girlfriend in Hood River, a 40-year-old male, also houseless, told CCCNews under the condition of anonymity today, Feb. 1. “He was a nice guy; I never had a problem with him,” he said.

The pedestrian was reportedly walking in the westbound lane near milepost 76 when the semi struck the male wearing dark clothing. 

A 19-year-old woman walked away after busting through a guardrail in her Nissan Murano on Interstate 84 near Hood River and her car came to a stop on the railroad tracks on Sunday, Jan. 21.

Despite additional snowfall in the Columbia River Gorge, Interstate 84 was reopened this morning making it possible for mail delivery today. Postal service employees were out in The Dalles this morning with vehicle tires chained. Even the employees had their feet chained.
