A card skimmer was discovered at Windmaster Market, a family owned and operated business at 1650 Tucker Rd in Hood River this morning at around 9:20 a.m. Windmaster is the latest in a string of local businesses including Treebird Market, Carson General, the Hood River Walmart and Hood River Astro, that have been targeted by skimmers this week.

With initial ballot counts showing just 100 votes separated Wasco County DA Candidates Kara Davis and Travis J Marston, an updated count at midnight narrowed the gap even further to just 47 votes separating the two candidates. 

The elections team wrapped up counting all available ballots before heading home at 11 pm last night, including the drop boxes in Simnasho, Maupin, Dufur, The Dalles, and Mosier.

Initial election results of the Wasco County May 21 primary election show a voter turnout of 30.96% with 5,760 ballots cast out of 18,605 registered voters as of 9 p.m. today. Unofficial results will be updated at midnight. Updated results that include postmarked ballots will be posted on May 24. May 28, 2024 is the last day the County will receive valid postmarked ballots by mail.

Members of the Portland branch of Jewish Voice for Peace will appear in Hood River on Thursday, May 16, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., to offer a presentation titled "Not in Our Name: Why Jews join Palestinians in saying free Palestine."  The event will take place in the Riverview Room at Riverside Community Church, 317 State St., Hood River.

Effective Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the City will be enforcing The Dalles Municipal Code 10.13.070.040(C) (Removal of signs in public right-of-way or on City-owned real property) and removing non-permitted political campaign signs brought to the City’s attention as being located within the City’s public right-of-way or on other City-owned real property.

Wasco County District Attorney candidate Travis J. Marston has officially been admitted to the Oregon State Bar just 19 days before the election, according to the Oregon State Bar and court records. This recent admission ends ongoing voter speculation and confusion about his eligibility for the position due to him previously lacking an active bar license in Oregon.

The Dalles Lock and Dam Visitor Center opened up for the summer season last Friday. The Visitor Center will be open Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Memorial Day.
