We have 3 professional meteorologists who publish wind forecasts for the Gorge three times every summer day,” Godsey said. “While these forecasts are tailored for water sports, they could also be helpful for boaters, fishermen, and during fire events.

Public comment sought: We have teamed up with experts from Harper Houf Peterson Righellis (HHPR) and Columbia West Engineering to explore and develop a trail connection that will span approximately 0.19 miles from SR 14 to SR 141. This trail will navigate a steep, rocky hillside and pass close to several private properties.

Work will begin soon to replace the existing Tree Top Playground at Sorosis Park in The Dalles. The last day for public access to the playground is Wednesday, September 25. On Thursday, September 26, temporary fencing will be installed around the perimeter of the playground site to promote safety and limit access to the site.

This presentation will cover the ongoing efforts of far-right radical groups to recruit local sheriffs into their extremist movements and organize law enforcement officers to undermine our democracy and the rule of law.

This work will impact East 15th Street between Kelly Avenue and Terrace Drive/Jefferson Street on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Work hours are anticipated to be 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Currently, there are no pedestrian routes or separate pedestrian paths connecting White Salmon to the Columbia River waterfront. This connector project aims to create a safe, dedicated pedestrian path, distinct from high-traffic routes on SR 14 and SR 141. Upon completion of the Hood River-White Salmon Interstate Bridge replacement project, this connector will enhance multi-modal accessibility and integration with the new bridge.

“We’re so excited to finally have this project in place and ready for our families to start using!” said Mayor Marla Keethler. “The splash pad was a park improvement that was included in the city’s 2022 Park System Plan update and received broad community support."

Bruce Borders uses his magic wand to brighten up a crosswalk at the corner of Fifth and Court streets in The Dalles on Tuesday, as he and fellow City of The Dalles Public Works employee Russ Duncan worked around the downtown core brightening up striping in the area.

The annual summer festival brings together an eclectic bunch of through-hikers who are walking from Mexico to Canada or vice-versa. Games, Food, Raffles and some awesome presentations celebrate and promote hiking, camping, backpacking & outdoor stewardship. 

Sarah Crook proposed extending this service with the introduction of the Gorge Pass, which would allow students to travel for free throughout the entire Gorge region, including to Portland and Vancouver. 

The streets of The Dalles were aglow last Friday as classic cars, muscle cars, and custom vehicles took part in the annual Neon Cruise, a highlight of the "Cruise the Gorge" weekend.

Through seven decades Bob Thouvenel has coached at his hometown high school and to celebrate his 80th birthday a “third and final” Bob-A-Long run will be held at Sorosis Park on Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. You can register now. All donations will benefit The Dalles High School Cross Country Team. Bob was on the first TDHS Cross Country Team in 1959.
