Fifth graders at Colonel Wright Elementary enjoyed a fun-filled water race organized by retired teacher Steve Chance. Mr. Chance, who returned to the school as a substitute teacher this year. Mr. Chance volunteered to revive the event, hoping to pass the event on to his son, a current teacher at the school in the future.
Free Kids Fishing Day Promises Family Fun at Spearfish Lake
On Saturday, June 8, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Klickitat County Trout Unlimited will host a Kids Fishing Day event from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is beginner-friendly and open to the public free of charge.

The 71-year-old said he planned on hitting Petersburg and then riding along Old Moody Road ending up at Heritage Landing at the Deschutes River where it collides with the Columbia. Temps are expected in the 70s this afternoon and Friday, May 31, is forecasted at 79 degrees and low wind, according to the National Weather Service.

Memorial Day at Sorosis Park featured a traditional ceremony to honor fallen soldiers. The event included the laying of wreaths, the playing of taps by a bugler, and speeches from high-ranking military and government officials. Attendees enjoyed patriotic music performed by a local band, and a gun salute highlighted the ceremony.
Diving into Discovery: Water Jam 2024 Brings Salmon Education to Life
Over 350 students will experience Water Jam 2024 on May 30 & 31 at Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery in Underwood, WA. Water Jam is an annual culminating experience for students rearing salmon in their classrooms on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge.

The Dalles Aquatic Center will open its doors for the summer season starting Saturday May 25. The Aquatic Center will be open weekends from 1 to 6 p.m. until the end of the school year. The pool will be open daily starting June 10th.
